Earth Hour 2009

The above scene is based on an actual event :) Yes, there were Cybercafes which actually participated in Earth Hour 2009 Malaysia from 8:30PM to 9:30PM yesterday (Saturday, 28th March) by switching off their lights - but not the computers, network, Internet, and air-conditioners of course. After all, you're only supposed to power off the lights :P Of course, you're welcomed to do more - like having Earth Hour every week - if you want to. Earth Hour is meant to be as a catalyst - even if you believe it's just another gimmick and publicity stunt in a world that's running out of ideas to sell and entertain people with.

Perhaps in time to come, we might see other new events like this - either on the global scale, or related to the environment in some way with all the climate changes that are happening around us. Perhaps next year BrickGamers will turn our site dark for that 1 hour - we will see in 2010!

Oh and by the way Jack, they do sell illuminating keyboards for gamers who play in the dark ;)

Brick Gamers 31 - Questioning Quality

Clicking the comic will open it in a larger size to a new tab/window so you can read it easier.

It's hard to imagine it's been 30 BrickGamers comics already (well, not counting the weekly Sunday updates!). For the 31st BG comic, we wanted to do something that's close to many gamer's hearts - the dwindling quality of games in today's world where big corporation have hijacked games for their benefit (like Electronic Arts - EA), but have forgotten gamers played those games because they liked it - not because what companies think they should like!

Anyway, we're sure many of you would have tried out Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn of War 2, via the large 2GB beta/demo (demos used to be small - these days demos are almost the size of the game itself!) and may have noticed while it added features that made it look like Company of Heroes (CoH), which is not surprising, since both are by Relic, it also became heavily demanding on hardware - not to mention it requires both Valve's Steam online service AND Microsoft's Games for Windows Live online service to work! All these nagging issues (and more) was the bane of BG and that's why we decided to poke fun at the gaming industry - no offense meant to hardworking true coders who are behind real games like Blizzard!

Zombie Genocide

The thing about competitive playing is that you can really see the amazing skills players developed as they push their skills to the limits. But some times this pursuit has resulted in hilarious scenario like the ever popular left4dead on the hands of experts playing; they charge forth with such brutality you wonder if the zombies are the ones who should flee with horror, not the survivors.

We have found you a great match

Almost all competitive computer games these days has this score board call the ladder where match results are recorded and scores be given to see who is the best in the game. Usually a set up system will pair up the players with similar skill level so they can have a fair fighting chance, but sometimes when a system is either too new or the system was not polished enough lopsided matches can happen and cyber slaughter is ensured...

Buy the game and play the... wait, patch first!

Unhealthy industrial trend? For sure. Rampart practice? A reality.
