Bloody Hot

The local afternoon heat without the remedy of an air con can be a terrible thing... so I would imagine it is not uncommon for a local gamer without an air con to "dress" up like a barbarian while he is playing in this dead lock heat.

Video Games Live @ Malaysia - Update 2

Update 2 - Guitar Hero & CosPlay @ the Concert (see bottom)!

Update 1 - PIKOM now holds the rights to WCG Malaysia
.

We know this has nothing to do with LEGO, but you never know if there will be LEGO games music @ this Video Games Concert! That's right, Video Games Live is a concert for gamers with music played from games!

It's just like a music concert - except they play music from games

This year, they're coming to Malaysia (@ the Kuala Lumpur City Centre Convention Centre Plenary Hall to be exact) on 17th April @ 2PM and 8PM with tickets ranging from RM80 to RM250. If you're a student, there's a 15% discount - but for the 2PM show only - and @ PS5 seating area only.

Visit Ticket Pro @ www.ticketpro.com.my or contact them @ +603 7880 7999. You can also buy your tickets @ TP Outlets.

In case you don't know, VGL will also be held in conjunction with the 2010 1st PIKOM PC Fair of the year, as well as the World Cyber Games (WCG) KL League qualifiers. Why? Because PIKOM now has the rights to WCG Malaysia. Let's hope the WCG here doesn't look like PC Fair!

Guitar Hero auditions will be held @ Room 405, Level 4 from 12 to 2PM and 6 to 8PM. You must be a VGL ticket holder to enter. Player with highest scores each session will win a chance to perform on stage with VGL live!

CosPlay (Costume Play) competition will be held @ Plenary Hall Foyer, Level 1. Registration starts @ 1PM and 7PM. Must be a VGL ticket holder as well. Finalists will go on stage and be judged by audience - loudest applause wins!

LEGOLand Malaysia Update

For all Malaysians (or Singaporeans, or Asians for that matter) who are waiting for LEGOLand Malaysia to open in 2012, here's an update to what's happening in the Johor state, which is where the theme park will open. We previously mentioned about this here.

It will be located in Nusajaya, which will be the new admin city instead of Johor Baru. Nusajaya is part of a larger area known as the Iskandar Project.

The construction sign is already up

This is where LEGOLand Malaysia will be developed

A model of Nusajaya with LEGOLand Malaysia (top middle)

Another model, with LED lights at night

Here are some work on the LEGO models for LEGOLand Malaysia, made in LEGOLand California by LEGO designers there.

Malaysians should recognise this building - it's the Perdana Putra, the Prime Minister's office, located in Putrajaya, the admin city of Malaysia, as opposed to Kuala Lumpur, which is the capital of the country. This LEGO model was done by KK's team in LEGOLand California.

You can read more about this professional LEGO model designer at her blog here.

Mini LEGO Twin Towers

Malaysians SHOULD instantly recognise this MOC (My Own Creation) - it's the Petronas Twin Towers of the KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre). It's the only tallest twin towers left in the world after...well, you know.

If you still haven't heard about it before, then maybe Malaysia needs to do more advertising and marketing out there compared to what it's really being known for, as our sister site BrickLives does.

Anyway, this is a miniature LEGO MOC done by MisaQa on Flickr. We hope she appreciates we've blogged about her MOC :)

Earth Hour 2009

The above scene is based on an actual event :) Yes, there were Cybercafes which actually participated in Earth Hour 2009 Malaysia from 8:30PM to 9:30PM yesterday (Saturday, 28th March) by switching off their lights - but not the computers, network, Internet, and air-conditioners of course. After all, you're only supposed to power off the lights :P Of course, you're welcomed to do more - like having Earth Hour every week - if you want to. Earth Hour is meant to be as a catalyst - even if you believe it's just another gimmick and publicity stunt in a world that's running out of ideas to sell and entertain people with.

Perhaps in time to come, we might see other new events like this - either on the global scale, or related to the environment in some way with all the climate changes that are happening around us. Perhaps next year BrickGamers will turn our site dark for that 1 hour - we will see in 2010!

Oh and by the way Jack, they do sell illuminating keyboards for gamers who play in the dark ;)

Monsoon Season

Monsoon Season

This is a common problem with Malaysians. Having their modem (and sometimes even more) fried by lightning during rain and thunderstorms, thanks to our tropical location! More so during the monsoon season now which rains almost everyday! So much so some companies like Aztech (and now Belkin) are known to replace your modems or routers should they get struck by lightning, since many new users are unaware they should remove their phone line from their modem or router during thunderstorms - as phones work just fine! However, it does help if you live in a location with tall structures around you, as the lightning will go for those instead of you!

Boss! I'm sick! Cannot go to work!

MC

Okay, how many of your gamers here are guilty of this? Relax, BrickGamers won't report you to your boss! It's no news that the common excuse used by Malaysians not to come to work is that they're sick, and so they have to take an MC (Medical Certificate to apply for leave).

However, this used to be for other issues - not gaming. Are gamers using the same tactic now?

The PS3 - Cheap Bluray Player?

PS3

You have to admit it, when Sony released the PlayStation 3 (PS3) with Blu-ray Disc (BD) drive, it was more than just a next-generation gaming console, it was also a cheap BD player !

Considering most BD players are more expensive - and they don't play games - this makes the PS3 not only a cheap BD player - it's also offers extra value by being able to play games too!

The PS3 is now available in Malaysia for RM1600 (yeah it's RM1,599 but we all know that it means it's RM1600 but reduced for the psychological effect) with 80GB of hard drive storage (which you can actually upgrade to 120GB - or more - if you know how).

If you didn't know about the recent launch - or go for it to win cash and prizes - you can buy your own "cheap BD player which plays games as well" from Sony shops.

Warhammer Online

If you don't know by now, the online game Warhammer has been launched. Like any other online game, you either have to get the client CD or DVD to install on your computer and then connect to the server to play, or download the client files yourself directly over the Internet.

However, WO is a whopping nearly 10GB download! That's more than even a dual-layer DVD9 (8GB)! Since Malaysia isn't well known for our Internet speeds - no thanks to Telekom Malaysia's (TM) broadband Streamyx service running at 1Mbps with the 2 and 4Mbps being unstable - it seems futile to download that much if you're just going to try it or if you're a Beta user for test. Until the TM HSBB (High-Speed Broadband) takes off in the country, get ready for this:
